I used to have an old alternative hoodie when they used to be based in California (long time ago) now the fabric is a synth-blend and just after a few days of wearing it to work it started piling under the armpits. The fabric seems to shed a lot of fibers on my undershirt and is looking threadbare and falling apart almost immediately which is really odd given the price you pay for this hoodie. I hope the company is aware of this issue, and fixes it immediately,

Alternative Rocky Hoodie - I bought this hoodie a couple years ago off Amazon in black and I liked it at first. It was very soft and fit well. Unfortunately it doesnt wash well and pills easily but since I just used it when going to the dog park I didnt really care. I recently just purchased the hoodie again from Zappos in the true navy color and love the color and softness and have tried to be very careful washing in only in cold water on the gentle cycle and using the very low heat setting on the dryer but the fabric just doesnt hold up and pills easily. Plus the synthetic material stinks and I cant figure out how to get rid of it. I think its overpriced for the quality.

I received my red hoodie today, so this review is more of a first impression. I shall update my review if any of my initial opinions change. FIT: The Rocky fits me perfectly right out of the package. Most jackets I buy are too loose for my tastes. This one feels fitted. At 6’6” and about 210 lbs, a large is slim enough to suit me and long enough to not look like I’m wearing a child’s jacket. That’s a common problem I find, which causes me to buy the XL. That’s why they’re usually loose. (If you’re built similarly to me and you aren’t crazy about tight-fitting clothes, choose XL.) QUALITY: Initial quality impressions are fairly good. The material is soft, but the zipper doesn’t feel very solid. Other reviewers have complained about broken zippers as well as piling immediately after wash. We shall see. OVERALL: I quite like this jacket pre-wash. I’m not terribly picky, and this hoodie is reasonably priced for what it feels like I’m getting. And it’s warm.

I really like this hoodie as it is thicker than my other Alternative Apparel hoodie and thus warmer. The navy color looks great and the fit is good. The only complaint I have is that the thing balled up after just one wash. If that bothers you, then this brand is probably not a good idea to go with (my other AA hoodie also has the same problem). If youre like me and you dont care about balling up, then this hoodie is pretty great.

Where to begin? Im seriously wondering if this is a genuine article - if so, Alternative Apparels quality has tanked. The sweatshirt arrived reeking of chemicals. I guess this is why the label says, "wash before wearing." After this first wash (gentle cycle, light organic detergent) the entire thing pilled on the outside. Further, it dumped an insane amount of lint on a couple other items in the wash. Somehow, this thing still produced lint thereafter. ANYTHING Id wear with it would be absolutely covered in grey lint. Horrible.
