I do need to qualify this review, as I had no intention of using this as a running shoe. It was purchased for its looks and availability in 4E width. The price is less than half of what normally put out for pounding the pavement. First, it is a nice walking or casual shoe. For under $40, it is well constructed, and I really like the understated look of the shoes. After some use, it is very comfortable for standing or walking. I even has pulling loops behind the heel, which I though had disappeared from these shoes in the name of economy. Running in these shoes isnt recommended, in my opinion. Most running shoes in wide or extra wide widths typically have a lot of support, because there is usually a parallel assumption that the user is relatively heavy. This show provides only a medium level support and cushioning. Two other items will not make running in these shoes a bargain. The area over the big toe is not reinforced and will wear out prematurely for runners. I know this from experience with two pairs of ASICS GT-2170, which were great running shoes otherwise. ASICS knows this is an issue; more recent shoes such as their GT-1000 are reinforced in that area. Finally, my ankles have no clearance to the top edge of this shoe and contacts it when running (but not walking). This is an issue, and maybe why the shoes are sold at a steep discount. In summary, this is a well made casual shoes (5 stars), but unless youre running distance races in Chuck Taylor All Stars, this isnt a great option (3 stars) for running.

I have very bad large feet. ASICS were recommended to me by a friend as a running shoe I should try. I have always worn New Balance but never really felt supported. The ASICS Gel Venture 5 running show is perfect for me. They are very comfortable and supportive. I cannot feel individual rocks and imperfections on the running surface when wearing these shoes. They also do not cause my feet and toes to go numb like some other shoes do. I am a casual runner, so the experience may be different for those who run a lot more often and further. I usually stick to the treadmill, elliptical, or neighborhood route for 25 to 30 minutes of high intensity work, 5 days a week. The fit is as expected and the quality and price are unbeatable. I will certainly buy again.

I needed outdoor running shoes for Summer volleyball. I am glad I found these Asics shoes in my size. And the best thing was they were on sale here at Amazon. The shoes offer great support and traction which reduces slipping while playing on grass. The shoes are also comfortable. I added new insoles to increase the comfort which will help with trail walking, running or hiking. I have tried and purchased many pairs of running shoes (Nike, Addidas, Saucony, New Balance, Fila) over the past 10 years and recently started to looking at Asics. I am glad I was able find and purchase 6 pairs of Asics running shoes and running socks this year alone. Once you find the right pair of shoes and socks that fit you cant help but order more. Great product, service and quality!

Pretty good shoe for the price. I ran a 5k the day after I got em and only ended up with a blister and some numbness. If you plan on doing long distance trail running I would recommend picking up some quality insoles (I already have some in my cart for the next Amazon purchase). Other than that, they are a okay shoe for the money. UPDATE: Im a month in and two different insoles and I am dropping my review to two stars. these shoes are pretty terrible for the price. I really expected better from ASICS and I thought my initial problems just needed breaking in. I have tried the shoe with running insoles, the stock insoles, and no insoles. each time they make my left foot go numb and give me blisters on the inside of my right foot. I have never owned any athletic shoes that are so poorly suited for athletic activities.

Im a woman who wears a 9W. Frequently I cannot find my size in a womans shoe that is wide enough in the toe box. Happily, the remedy is a mans shoe in their regular width. These running shoes fit me perfectly with lots of width for my size 9W foot. The orthotic removes so that I can use my own orthotics. Ive worn them all day and not taken a single lame step from plantar fasciitis. Yeah! My toes are happy, too! Yeah! The sole is very stable with little flexibility laterally. Just perfect. Im ready to get them in all colors.
