These are stylish, look good, and Ive gotten many compliments on them. I have enjoyed owning these, and will potentially buy more Clarks in the future.. The soles dont last nearly as long as most shoes these days -- mine are still usable but they are definitely showing wear (starting after about six months of moderate use.). One thing to note is these arent exactly an every-day-wear kind of shoe, because the insole is very flat and they dont offer the best ankle support. That doesnt mean theyre uncomfortable, just,.. have other shoes, too! Also not good for rainy days or snow, you dont want to get them wet and they have no tread at all -- they are desert boots after all! (I definitely have worn mine in both snow and rain, but I use a waterproofing mink oil on them. Still wouldnt exactly recommend it, especially snow because youll slip, but with waterproofing rain is not the end of the world or anything.)

So, ordering boots or shoes online can be a bit tricky. All the reviews I read on these pretty much said order a half size or so bigger than what you wear. Well, I wear Vans skate shoes on a normal basis, so I dont have a standard set of shoes or prior boots to reference. I decided on ordering a half-size above of my Vans, and as it turns out, that was the better decision. With boots, theres a wear-in period. These babies come quite stiff, and will take your feet some adjusting to. The way these are made is that the seam directly below the bottom lace loop holds in the tongue, so if youve got wedge-feet from the bottom to the top, then Id definitely recommend ordering at least a half, or one size above your normal wear. This seam is not forgiving until you wear the shoe for quite a while. Youll have a sore top of your foot if you order too small due to it. So, in short, wear them to the store, to get the mail, everywhere -- youll need to break them in, and once theyre broke in, theyre formed to your feet so theres no going back. Anyways -- these boots resemble early-era boots from the 1900s - 1930s, which is the main reason I love them.

After reading a lot of reviews that advised getting these a half or whole size smaller, I decided to go down a half size from my usual mens 11 1/2 US as I also read these boots would stretch somewhat, however, I found the 11 US size was just too tight on the sides to be able to wear comfortably so had to return them. Im wondering if the people who recommend going down in size in these are actually basing that from the UK size number, which is about a whole size larger than the US equivalent. I ended up getting a pair of Clarks Original Desert Boots locally and even 11 1/2 US in those was too snug, and ended up going with a 12 US/11 UK. I found that my foot size (28.5cm, slightly wide) had about 15mm toe room in the 11 US Bushacres and about 25mm in the 12 US Desert Boots. Apart from the sizing issues I did like the Bushacres, they were well made and felt like the right size would have been comfortable and a good cheaper alternative to the original desert boot. For a good fit, I would suggest you measure your foot in cm, then compare against the heel to toe distance on the Clarks shoe chart, for a firm fit go 0.5cm smaller or for slightly looser fit or wide feet stick to your actual size in cm, that should provide about an inch of space in the toebox.

I love these boots. They fit that hard-to-hit niche between being more formal than athletic shoes, but suitable for office and daily wear without being overpoweringly flashy and obviously made for going out in like some Chelsea (Beatle boots) I own. They have a certain retro subtlety of style that can be hard to find in quality footwear. I bought them a size large after reading the reviews here, and they fit perfectly. Theyre a little stiff, which is to be expected with any new leather shoe. I think some reviewers have mistaken flashiness and unecessary detail with "quality." These boots have a low-key look, yet the quality of workmanship is surprisingly high for footwear in this price range. The leather is smooth and supple yet quite thick all the way around for a lower-cost shoe. The tongue is about twice as thick as my current pair of clarks. The heel and sole are better too —heel is higher and sole is thicker and theyre both made of a dense, quality rubber instead of the lighter material in my current Clarks. Stitches look solid, with double stitching in some areas. These boots will probably last for years if you take care of them. For $60, I can hit them with the Kiwi Color Shine once in a while and put in some gel inserts. :-)

The boots are fabulous! I am a woman and I purchased these to wear after seeing stylish pictues on Pinterest! :) Theya re adorable...The first couple of time I wore them, they were not comfortable at all...they rubbed my ankles horribly when I was driving. So....The internet to the rescue... I folded the tops down on them selvews (kinda like an elf boot) and left tehm like that for a couple days and then I put coconut oil on the area I folded over and let them sit anouther couple of days....Then, I decided to wear them. Before I gave them a chance to see what the coconut oil did, I put super hot water on the heels where I had folded them over and then I put them on with thick socks.....I barely noticed the dampness and by the end of the day, they were complelety comfortable! They were just really stiff and needed to broken in I guess. I will ahve these for many ears to come hopefully! Classic style and i think they will get better with age!
