Recommendation Up Front: I recommend these boots for anyone who works in garrison/office who takes occasional treks off road – These boots pair very well with the OCP uniform. Overall: These boots arrive and feel broken in right out of the box. They fit as sized for me and are a nice coyote tan color. I wear them with the OCP uniform in Afghanistan. The dirt and sand here fades the color nicely and they take on an even more attractive appearance. I have replaced the laces once with tan parachute cord. Pros: Light weight, comfortable, breathable I have worn these boots daily for the past 4 months. I feel they are worth the price and with how comfortable they are, they have paid for themselves. I work an office job but I am on my feet a lot doing all sorts of tasks and they perform very well. The boots breathe well and also keep very cool thanks to the lightweight material. They have exceeded my expectations. Cons: Durability – These boots have been durable for my use so far, but I have been respectful of their limitations. The material is very light and thus thin in places, so I would be very cautious purchasing these boots with intent to use them strenuously . An occasional hike is not out of the question.

Install Flash Player The boot is super light. I wear predominantly steel toe boots, so this is a drastic change for me. The boots are just as light as my running shoes. They flex nicely and they fit well. I got them for the days Im in the office versus on the flightline or in the warehouse. Warning these are full nonner boots. I stubbed my toe on a Pelican case and there was no forgiveness! But hey, you got to compromise something right? I do have a few complaints. My biggest gripe, the ankle supports are made of cheaply feeling material. Like a cross between a windbreaker and thin canvas. They make a "swish" noise when I walk. See the video for what I mean. The other issue, is minor, but may annoy someone else. The top of the boot doesnt have any padding. Its the part that that wraps around your calf. Doesnt seem to bother me so much, but I would have preferred a little cushion. Overall the boot functions, fits, and is very lightweight. Been wearing them for a week and I dig them. I may give the 511s a shot next go around when Im due for another non-steel toe pair of boots.

I bought these while on deployment, they fit well, and were comfortable, however, they were only worn during light duty days, and they didn’t last 2 months before the front toe ripped out. I contacted Danner, and because the boots didn’t rip on a seam, it was not considered a manufactures defect, and if I wanted them replaced I could buy a new pair. I asked if their product failing less than 60 days after purchase was considered “normal wear and tear” .... I have not received a response. Long story short, if you want a light weight comfortable boot, that you can’t trust to stay together through very light work, this is the pair for you.

During my deployment (6 months), Ive gone through 2 pairs of these boots. The first pair of boots I had, was rubbing on my pinky toe and caused me to grow a corn on my right foot. The second pair, same size, I did not have this problem. The problem might have been with manufacturing on the first set. The part that caused me to replace the boots, were the fact that the boot laces worn through to the core. As of today, Ive noticed another little tear in the laces of my second pair of boots. Overall, the comfort of the boots is well worth the price and have been very happy with the purchase. Im a little wary of the quality of the 550 cord they use for the boot lace sheathing, but those can be replaced with some new laces.

I have owned nothing but Danner boots my entire career as a law-enforcement officer. I worked many special operation functions including gangs, Narcotics intervention, SWAT special services & Hostas Negotiation. There were a few times I purchased an inexpensive boot and I paid for it dearly. If you want to boot that fits correctly the first time you put it on until the day it’s taken it’s last recital Then purchase Danner. The Tachyon is the best value boot on the market today. Your feet are the most important tool you have as a cop if they fail you then you may as well be behind a desk. In my opinion this is the lightest and most well-made boot in its class whether in black or coyote. It is not the most expensive pair Danner makes however for $100 you can purchase three pair and still be way ahead of the game. I have never had problems with stitching or the rubber soles pulling away from the main boot area. The only drawback on this model is that it does not provide as impact protection as the Dannie Arcadia. The Arcadia is a much heavier boot & being a full leather boot it is much hotter so there is a trade-off. No matter which Danner model you purchased it is the best in its class for the function it provides. Don’t be a poser buy what real cops buy. Jeff Corbin police detective/SWAT (Ret.)
