I loved these shoes at first well ventilated, good support then few months later two things started happening 1. Frequently when double tied normally the loop of the one show would hook around the other show causing me to trip and fall. That could mean you life on a hike. I recommend doubling tying then keep tying till the loop is too small to reach the other shoe. At 8 months while walking one shoe lace hooked on the other shoe and down I whent. The plastic speed lace hook broke in half. 2. The sole started separating from the shoe in places at about 3 months. There is a 2 year warranty on these Thailand made shoes that excludes "lace retention devices" I did file a claim yesterday. Will update my review when Keen responds. Update Keen credited my a voutcher to buy new shoes. I am a loyal keen user as long as the new shoes hold up.

This is an interesting shoe. Unlike most shoes that hold your foot along the entire length of the lace, this shoe grabs your foot around your ankle/heel and the front of your foot almost feels like it is floating. Thats a pretty cool feature for going down an incline because you are completely supported at the ankle instead of the your toe plowing into the toe of the shoe. I absolutely love this concept for a shoe used for hiking up/down medium inclines. I give this heel/ankle grabbing design 5 stars. There is a weakness in the shoe. Right behind the ankle there is a vertical seam. It will tear very soon after the shoe is put into use. That seam needs reinforcement. I saw this raised on the internet by someone when I was researching this shoe before purchase.

I’ve got to tell you, I’m pretty mad about these shoes. They had some short coming I noticed right away **more on that below**, but I was willing to live with them because the shoes felt both comfortable and incredibly stable on the ground. I haven’t even had them for a full week and had really started to fall in love with them (I’ve being thinking of them as my dragon skin shoes because of the color, which is so much better than the product picture) that is until I noticed something when I looked down at them lovingly earlier today; something that turned my heart cold against them. The blasted soles have started to delaminate! AFTER LESS THAN A WEEK! I have a desk job and hike on the weekends, but I hadn’t even taken these on a walk yet! I had put them on, walked a few feet to my car, walked around work; indoors mind you, and then back to my car, to my front door and taken them off. I had been babying these shoes and they still have started to fall apart! AFTER LESS THAN A WEEK! 4 DAYS! So, I’ve printed the return label and I’m sending them back. As for the short comings I mentioned earlier; just in case you are dead set on trying these out yourself after reading my negative review and the others (I can’t blame you, I did the same thing thinking everyone else’s reports of delaminating soles had to be some sort of fluke; spoiler alert: they aren’t!) the placement of the loops on the back and tongue of the shoe should have been thought out better. I have seen folks run their laces through the back loop of a pair of shoes to get a good wrap with the laces. You cannot do that with these shoes. The loop on the heel is too high and will easily ride up and rub the back of your ankle. As for the loop on the tongue, I’ve seen folks run their laces through this as well to secure the laces from slipping over the tongue of the shoe…forget about that as well. Not only is the tongue short enough to essentially insure that the laces will slip over the top, but the tongue loop is so long and high that even with the laces through the loop the whole mess can still slip over the top of the tongue to rub your ankle. Keen, listen up! Make the tongue on this shoe longer and all the loops lower and stop using bubblegum or whatever useless glue to secure the sole to the shoes and you’ll have something great! Until then, folks, take my word for it and avoid these like the plague! They are too expensive for the poor quality of adhesive used to hold them together.

First off, these are a bit more flexible that the waterproof Targee II (I just bought and returned) but with the same sole. The wide toe box with the rubber cap is just awesome for me. I use orthotics and they fit very nicely on top of the insole with this boot. Even with my orthotic I can wear a thick sock and not get my fourth and pinky toe in a bunch. The lacing at the top of the vamp could be improved with one more eyelet. I think in a few weeks Ill take a leather punch and do that myself. These are very comfortable and flexible. The midsole has good cushioning these dont feel like a brick. I have put 15 miles on rocks and inclines last couple days, and they are just what I was looking for. Ill update my review of these in a month.

Ive been wearing these for about 2 months now, and I must say that these could easily be the best boots Ive ever owned. They are light as air, support my 40 year old ankles very well, have a solid rugged feel, and walk easily over all types of terrain. The well--made laces are easy to use, and can be customized in a number of different hiking boot configurations. They seem cool and vented enough that my feet dont get sweaty. The heel is configured so that I dont get much movement there, avoiding blisters. The toe box is roomy and gives my pigs plenty of room to spread out. Its not waterproof, so its clearly a summer shoe -- if you need a waterproof boot, Keen has others that will fit that bill - but that adds to weight. Overall Im very satisfied with this purchase, full disclaimer: these are my 4th pair of Keen boots for various situations. I will definitely continue to wear Keens in the future, and this particular boot may be my all time favorite hiking boot!
