This is my 10th pair of MOABs; and I am looking forward to how MOAB 2 compares to the first generation boot. Because my last pair was slightly snug I ordered a 10 US instead of the usual 9.5. The 10 fits fine My usual practice is to wear my new pair for inside work and retire the old for outdoor work. Hence, at any given time, I have two pair. The outdoor boot takes a beating----mud, gravel, and lots of water. Rather than clean up the outdoor boots after a muddy project, I leave the mud on to dry. At the next wearing, it falls off and I have a mostly clean boot. After shopping around, my conclusion is that the Merrell MOAB is the best hiking boot on the market. Right out of the box, I can wear this boot all day with no blisters.

I have worn on approx 5 training hikes of about 2.5 mi each now in preparation for half dome on 7/28. They feel fantastic! Very comfortable, great traction up and downhill, and I even dipped my foot in the pool to test the water resistant qualitys! Overall an awesome hiking boot!

I bought these boots for two main reasons: Awesome traction vibram soles and waterproof. Well, turns out they are NOT waterproof. If I knew they were NOT waterproof, I would have bought a different Merrell boot. I have a different pair of Goretex Merrell boots that I can stand in puddles in and my feet don’t get wet. They’re a few years old so I thought I’d take my chance with a different pair. I was in a light rain, and I noticed my toes getting soggy. What a bunch of crap! They will be a good hiking shoe in dry conditions, but I live in the Pacific Northwest and I like to be able to walk through 3 inch puddles or tiny stream crossings without worrying about my feet getting wet. When you buy shoes and they don’t meet 50% of your expectations, that’s a big deal. One star, did not work as advertised. Trust me and the other people that say these are not waterproof. That’s $125 on shoes that I don’t need.

I should have ordered the 13s but I used them so I guess its too late to return. That being said, I went on 11.1 mile hike that is rated as one if not the hardest hike in San Diego and it went great due to these boots. It rained during the hike and my feet stayed dry. I also saw where others had slipped and placed my foot there and I did not slip. Crazy good. Did not slip on the granite either. Toes hurt going down hill so I tightened the laces around my ankle to hold my foot in place which helped. The climb had many loose rocks and I kicked half of them, so the rubber tip saved me from a lot of pain. As you can see Im really happy with the performance. Sad that I might have to use them for walking. Since my toes did have lots of pressure going down hill. Will buy another pair when I can save the money. But buy them if youre in to hiking. Saved an out of shape old man like me. No major foot pain the next day after 8 hours of up and down trekking.

Well made boot but still too narrow in the toe box . I wish that hiking boot manufacturers would stop trying to make their boots stylish and just make them comfortable. Wide toe areas, supportive fitted arches, well padded heels strong quick lacing systems. This boot is not bad but not great. The best of a bad bunch. Tried over 20 different boots from various companies these are the best. 6 feet tall 165lbs 10.5 EEE serious hiker and climber for a 65 year old dude.
