I hear these puppies are the choice of Navy Seals and can I but concur? Did the 100-mile South Downs Way hike in the UK from Winchester to Eastbourne in in six days, crossed the channel to Dieppe (ferry); visited all the main pilgrim cathedrals in Rouen, Paris, Chartres, Orleans, Tours, Poitiers and Bordeaux (train and long day hikes). Ended up at the Spanish border and did the 525-mile Camino del Norte hike to Santiago in 27 days straight, no rest days. There is NO WAY I couldve done it at that pace without proper footwear: the Solomon Quests gave me the NEEDED foot/ankle support, especially going downhill to PREVENT blister formation (number one enemy on Camino after cheap wine). Of course, I used ample amount of vaseline too. But most of all: I was able to recover every day from a daily 19-mile (on average) hard surface hikes carrying a 20+ lbs backpack. No other shoe has been this great and I have virtually hiked around the world and back. Great and grippy in wet or icy snow too, keeps your pods nice and dry. PS. If you suffer from bunions (like I do) undo the lacing from the bottom two eyelets and ALWAYS lace up the ankle support to prevent your foot from painful "wedging" into the toebox. I learnt this the hard way (like everything else worthwhile). Just bought my second pair - did too much scree downhill sliding in Nevada and burnt away whatever heel material was left after about 1,500 miles of regular hiking...

I usually only buy Salomon sneakers, but these are my first Salomon boots. I havent backpacked with them, but have worn them on 4 2-4 mile hikes. No break in required. Nice snug fit on the ankles when tied up. I do like the clips that prevents them from getting untied. They are 100% waterproof. I stood in a 4" stream then walked around and my feet stayed dry. I bought these to replace a pair of Asolos that started to get my feet wet even with just dew on the grass. A repeat in the same conditions as I said 100% waterproof. I like the tread design, they provide good traction. As I saw on YouTube, a very good 3 season boot.

I have three pairs of Salomon boots now. My 4D 2s are getting worn, so I bought these as a replacement. I dont think you can go wrong with Salomons if your feet are a little on the narrow side. Thats my only "complaint" about this boot in comparison to the 4D 2s. Its cut just a bit wider. Not enough to make much of a difference, but I absolutely loved the fit of the 2s. Ive had two pairs of Kenetrek boots prior to my Salomon boots for hunting here in nevada and will never look anywhere else from here on out. If you like the fit of Danner boots and hate the feel of Keens or Merrils, I think these would be your desired cut.

I have used the Quest 4d 3 as my primary hiking boots for many training hikes and several mountain summits. South Sister, and Mount Marcy were the longest treks. As a dry weather hiking boot, the quest has performed well and held up to a lot of miles. It was comfortable out of the box and works well with superfeet blue inserts except for some heel rub after four miles. I solved that issue with wool socks and coolmax liner socks. The reason it is a three star boot is the gortex liner stopped functioning properly after a few months. I could feel water leaking in over the toes whenever I stepped in a puddle on Mount Marcy. Only my darn tough socks made having wet feet for 15 miles tolerable. If I didnt need the water proof feature I would have bought the non gtx version for the added air circulation. I sent a warranty claim to Salomon and they provided a fast response. Thanks to their great customer service, I was able to get a different model (x alp ltr). I am hopeful that these will work out better in wet conditions.

My son is wearing these boots right now hiking the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal!!! The Himalayan mountains... He normally wears a 10.5 wide, and the recommendation was to order a size 11. They fit perfectly! Now he did wear them around home and hiked in them before he left for Nepal. Great boots!
