Salomon Men's Quest 4d 3 GTX Backpacking Boots

I have spent most of the summer replacing my gear for outdooring to include these boots. I was in the Army and scouts for a combined 15 years, and have always loved hiking, rucking, rock climbing, and backpacking. I will say this is the best pair of boots I have ever used, and I have been in this price point many times (high end bellvilles, oakleys, timberlands, ect.). I am a bigger guy 6’ 225 about 270 with all my gear, and these boots deliver. First my foot has never been so comfy and sturdy never slipped every step I was a sure as a mountain goat. The trip recently was 30 miles and the weather was a solid 37 hours rain, mud, wind, and just everything you hate to back pack in. My feet stayed dry and warm had no blisters. The dry factor stopped after about 25 miles but this is my own fault I let my socks get a little to wet and didn’t swap them fast enough, but I am sure if I could go back my boots would have stayed dry the whole trip. I have probably 200 miles into these boots in about 2 months and the only wear is where my toes meat my foot, but this is them breaking in. I did blouse my pants or wore gaiters with these boots which is a game changer and helps your boots last longer. I cannot recommend these boots enough and to compare some of the people I went with had high end keens and merrels (same mileage, wear, person size as me) they were miserable water got through in the first ten miles and the burned through all the pairs of socks they brought. Their feet were like hamburger meat by the end, and I was carrying their gear to help them out. I will probably buy a second pair of these just because I know my foot works so well in them before they change styles or something like that. Do your self a favor and save money by just buying these the first time around. All my friends are returning their boots to REI to buy these ones love it!!!! As far as the fit goes i went and got sized and tried these on next to all the above mentioned pairs as well as oboz, lowas, and bellvilles.

Had the prior version before this and trail run in SpeedCross4s.... love Salomon...In 3 years I took them through Yosemite, Big Sur, Colorado rockies, Banff, Glacier, North Carolina, and many many rocky wet trails in PA. Stayed waterproof until the end. Held together so well I didnt realize how broken down they had become. Tread is improved on the new ones and they are significantly lighter than the old boots. Fit feels just as secure and comfortable. Will update on durability. If you watch certain colors will magically go from 230 to 180.. Im not particular about color. But saving $50 for camp food and beer money is a big deal!

Very uncomfortable. I generally wear a size 12 to 13 in men’s shoes. tried these on at REI and decided on the size 13. I then ordered the boots in the color I wanted on Amazon. I wore the boots inside my home for about 30 minutes before deciding to return them. I do not have wide feet, in fact they are on the narrow side but these boots pinched badly on the outer edge of my foot about mid span. I adjusted the laces to the loosest setting and still the pinch hurt worse every second I had them on. The boots appeared to be good quality with no defects but I would expect that for boots costing in excess of $200. The seller was great and returned for a full refund but beware I’ve never experienced a boot that was more uncomfortable. I’m a former Marine and have in law enforcement for 15 years so I have owned and worn many boots over the years and these were the most uncomfortable boots I have ever worn.

All the positive reviews made me think it was something wrong with the pair I received so I tried again 2x more. They really hurt my feet especially where they crease in the toe box. So I tried a different size as well and that still didn’t help. I wanted them to work but after 20+ miles in a few different pairs I had to send them back.

Bought because version 2 was highly rated. First, these are extremely comfortable on long hikes with a heavy load. However the heel cups seem a bit too loose. I normally wear 12-13, so I tried sizes 12, 13 and 14. I honestly couldnt tell the difference except for a little extra space in the toe box. My heels swam around even with thick socks and heels tied tight. I hiked about 50 miles in the 14s before deciding to return them for 13s. Considering the price, I am a little concerned about durability, but all Chinese-made shoes seem to have glue issues after getting wet lately. Hopefully nothing a little contact cement wont fix. Will update later.
