I was hoping these would stretch a bit but they haven’t. I ordered my normal shoe size and they are too tight in the toe area but slightly too big in the heel. Since I was hoping the toe would stretch, I’ve worn them for a week and am unable to retuern them with the wear. I deliver mail and walk a lot, I think the next size up would work but don’t want to spend another $150 on these.

Was looking forward to using this ... and it is I think a great shoe but the kevlar lace snapped first time i tried it so I am returning the product. It was just so hard to find a kevlar lace replacement. I went to to a point that I went to 2 shoe repair stores today because I did not want to return the shoe but when they said they would not be able to repair it - that made me make up my mind to return it. I would hate to be running or hiking if something like that happened and you do not even have a replacement lace. I love Salomon shoes and I have two pairs of them but this one disappointed me. I will continue buying Salomon but without the kevlar lace (such a pain to replace easily).

Great fit, very sturdy yet lightweight. I have walked approximately 150km so far and they are becoming more and more comfortable with more distance on the shoes. I have Forces Salomons, 4Ds, Speeds, mids... This pair is really as close to a perfect hiking shoes or light backpacking shoe as you can get. Just make sure your foot shape suits this brand and if it does you will also be impressed. Highly recommended!

These shoes are well constructed, light, and with excellent grip, but they suffer from one fatal flaw that renders them unuseable—the toe box is far too narrow. I don’t have wide feet. For reference, I have the Salomon Quest 4d 3 boots, which are excellent. I also wear Nike Metcons (the 3s were great, and now I have the Metcon 4s). The X Ultra 3s were clearly designed for people with narrow feet, and frankly they should indicate as much in the description.

I tested this shoe on a camping trip which included several rugged, rocky hikes. The shoe performed exceptionally well being surefooted and comfortable all day. The light weight is a plus and although I was initially uncertain about the lacing system, I grew to love it. I was thinking that I would use this shoe on tamer, groomed trails but I now know that it will go anywhere. I would recommend this shoe to anyone who spends time hiking.
