Salomon Men's X Ultra 3 GTX Hiking Boot

So my husband and I have recently done a fantastic job with being more active and enjoying hikes, so we thought we deserved an upgrade to our regular running shoes. I recently purchased several shoe brands for myself to try (another review for another time), but my husband only tried two shoes, the Solomon Ultra GTX3s and the Inov-8s Roclite 315s. He would have tried the North Face 110s but wasnt able to find his shoe size online. The Roclites werent a good fit for him, but 3 weeks in later and he loves the Salomon Ultra 3s. Since he already owns the Salomon Quest 4d hiking boot, he knew that the Salomon brand was a good quality company, and wasnt surprised with the excellent quality and durability of the shoe. Personally, I also tried an Ultra GTX 3 (I actually went with the Speedcross shoes in the end), and I was also impressed with the shoes traction, waterproof ability, front toe protection, all while being light weight. Hes used his shoes so far on multiple types of terrains where we would normally slip with our old shoes, and he says that the shoes have been great with traction. The only issues he had were that the shoe wasnt very breathable in the beginning, that it doesnt really have any ankle support. We bought these shoes at a great price, but he says he possibly would have gone with the Mid Ultra 3s which have a bit more ankle support. But for terrains that get bumpy, he uses his Quest 4ds anyways. As for the breathability, it just took some getting used to I think, since 3 weeks in he uses them without any complaints. On flat terrain, sometimes hell leave the laces mostly loose and walk with them that way, which he says makes them a bit more breathable. But even tightened all the way, he says his feet feel fine even after a long hike. So far a great buy and highly recommended.

This is my first pair of Salomons and I went with them based on outdoor gear labs recommendation when I was looking for a new shoe to replace my Merrills that came apart one week before we were heading to do a bunch of 4-5 day treks in Peru. They were comfortable right out of the box, not that a real break-in period should be necessary for non-leather shoes. As expected, the shoelace tying system took a little while to get used to, and I wasnt sure how I felt about them at first. On the whole, I have grown to enjoy it, as it makes taking the shoes on and off really simple, though I noticed a tendency over long hikes that they come a little loose, and you just have to bend over for two seconds and retighten them. I think its worth that slight hassle. The grip is excellent, and what led me to the shoe in the first place as hiking in New England we are always on rocks, ledges, and eroded trails, and they are often wet and very slippery. They work very well in this regard. So far Ive put about 100 miles on them in the 6 weeks Ive owned them and have been very happy overall.

These shoes were comfortable right out of the box. Sure they were a little pricey but once again you get what you pay for. Worn daily on construction jobs and have worn them on hiking trails in Maui. They have performed very well. The lacing system is top notch.

Ive been looking for months for a pair of lightweight but rugged shoes for summer hiking and bike riding.. After reading many reviews, I chose the Ultra 3 GTX. Right out of the box, the shoes felt great on my feet. I have a recurring pain in one foot due to overuse and inflammation, and these shoes are a definite help for that. They were very comfortable on a recent woodland bike ride. The light weight of these shoes is a pleasant change from my usual hiking boots. Long term durability is still to be determined, but I discovered a co-worker has two pairs of these shoes that he rotates, and wears a pair nearly everywhere he goes. Im strongly considering buying the boot version of this shoe to replace my winter hiking boots.

Like shoe alot, but returning 12 for 11 1/2. I have the speedcross pro trailrunners, also the waterproof model; and that one runs small, so the 12 fits perfectly...just as other reviewers mentioned. Dropping down a 1/2 size, also opened up the color availability so I reordered a cooler red. Win / win. I have complete faith in the shoe, other than my misordering; so no stars deducted. These are very well made, and the styling is awesome. Im a die hard Merrill & Keen guy; but Salomon has definitely grabbed my attention.
