These state they have a "memory foam" insert. About the only padding I can find is the over stuffed tongue. The rest seems to be made of plywood. The leather seems to be a good quality and the sole seems to be made of quality rubber. Its all very stiff. Hopefully they break in quickly, or they are going in the trash. One month update: They are very not waterproof. Even though the term is on each boot four times, it doesnt work. Maybe less time writing it and more time making them waterproof. The memory foam still hasnt appeared. Buy me feet are starting to conform to the boot instead. The leather upper has seemed to break in, so that part is working well. TLDR: Not a good hiking boot, not a good work boot. Would look good on a shelf if you wanted to say you had a pair of boots.

This boot is very sturdy and definitely more of a WORK boot than a fashion boot. They come stiff (as they should) so be ready to wear them for several hours over several days to break them in before using them for work or general wear. Then seem like they are made to last and the tread is very aggressive. I purchased them for the days here in the North East when we get 4 or 5 inches of snow. So its enough to have to shovel or blow but not really requiring a higher more bulky winter boot that is difficult to drive in. These will be PERFECT for that since they are water proof. An added benefit is they look great too! If you are like me and have a wide foot get the extra wide. I did that and have plenty of support and room for a pair of heavy socks. I have just broken them in and at this point I HIGHLY recommend them, if youre on the fence jump off and order them!

This is the second pair of these my husband has gotten. He is a gravel train driver and loves the lightweight along with the sketchers comfort with the long days. His last pair lasted 8 months which for him is about 2 times longer than the CAT or craftsman we bought. On the other side my teen son asked for a pair after seeing them so A+ for styling. Update*** We have now purchase another pair for both husband and son, as well as a gift. They still are a favorite wear.

Well see if the five stars stand. Writing this after a day having them. I LOVE that I could order extra wide. FINALLY, shoes that fit!!! I usually have to go a size larger to accommodate my wide little feet. 8 extra wide fit perfectly! That is standard for me. Im an 8, but have to typically go to nine to accommodate wider feet, so I think the sizes are standard. Actually, very comfortable, but I added Dr Scholls inserts, which I often do. Very heavy as many complain about, but I expected that. I dont know who buys work boots like this and expects them to be light. Heavy duty means heavy. Ill report back if they start to wear out and how, and if I thought I got my moneys worth.

I read the reviews and many people suggested to order this boot a half size larger. I took their advice and was glad I did. I typically wear a 10 regular so I ordered and 10 1/2 regular. The boots dont fit perfectly but they are close and I can accept a boot that is just a little big. Not to big for me to make a difference. The quality of the boot is very good. I wear these as an everyday boot to do all kinds of work at home and away. Great grip, sturdy insole, tough exterior and they look good. The only compliant is that I wish they would be about an inch higher at the ankle but that isnt that important. Ive had the boots about a week and put them through my usual test and they passed after the first day. If the boot continues to please me they will most likely become my goto boot. I had been wearing boots made by Rockport which are comfortable and very good boots. But these boots are stiffer and offer more protection for my feet, are comfortable enough for everyday wear and look even better.
