I got these for a long trip involving lots of hiking and walking. I bought them a few weeks in advance so that I could break them in. I got them in a 9, my normal size, but the first pair was very narrow and squeezed my toes uncomfortably. I exchanged them for a size up, which left me with no time to break them in for my trip. I honestly noticed very little difference between the 9 and 9.5: both squeezed my toes and both fit awfully snug. I had bought Timberland brand inserts for these, but even after Id cut them down to dimensions of my feet, they wouldnt fit in the shoe. The toes of the insert, in particular, bunched up inside the shoe and wouldnt flatten: there just wasnt enough space for the companys own insert to fit their own shoe. This isnt my first time being disappointed with Timberlands. The first Timberland boots I owned really messed up my ankles and for several years I vowed never to wear Timberlands again, thinking they were just an overhyped brand charging more for looks than actual quality. Im kicking myself now for not trying the wide size (something Ive never had to do with another boot), but Im mostly mad at myself for not looking at Chippewa or Salomon first, two brands that havent disappointed me and which havent upped their prices because theyre considered "street wear." Ive heard elsewhere that their sizing is all over the place. My recommendation is to look for a brand that hasnt moved down the fashion direction (Id say Red Wings has followed Timberlands path, unfortunately), but which is aimed more at producing quality, well-fitting boots.

I have a few complaints, but Im honestly surprised at the nature of the negative reviews! My boots have survived 3 years of abuse as a work boot. Im a package courier and these boots have seen many rainy, 14 hour days, as well as hot days. Ive recently started using them as a construction work boot for projects around the house since theyre getting ready to retire anyway, but are still the most comfortable boot I own. After 3 years the rubber sole has finally worn to the foam, but Im still wearing them today, and will continue to until they fail me or I buy a new pair, which is what brought me here. My only complaint is that they did develop a squeak early on. Other than that, I have another pair that Ive had for 5 years and are still practically brand new (wrong color for work). I highly recommend. This is a five star boot, but the squeaking is enough for me to knock off a star.

July 2018 Update: These are not for made for enduring anything more than a casual trail. Do some research into these boots and you’ll quickly find that they’re popular in the construction field and other non-outdoors activities. Recently went on a moderate hike with a 180 ft decline/incline in a very short distance. Happened to catch to a rain shower as well. These boots really don’t have the traction needed to be confident in footing. Not all is bad and they’re not useless. Great for those needing a boot that will hold up while doing the garden, cutting grass, digging that new patio out. The temperature control is great. Not sure why or how with the full leather surround, but they are. I marked these down to a 3 star because for me, they just don’t fit the bill and I believe they’re marketed a bit incorrectly. Timberland does have better suited hiking boots though, just do your online research as there are some better options around this price range. Great shoes, very comfortable. Theyre NOT warm, so make sure if youre looking for a winter boot that you wear socks with these. However, I personally did not buy these to be snow boots, but rather for spring/summer hiking. My only complaint is that the tongue catches the lip of my pants quite a bit so I look like a rapper wearing timbs with the tongue over the pants. Not a bad thing, just not what I want. Overall though, great shoe. Ive had a friend thats had two pairs in the last 6 years, so they do last.

I recently purchased these boots and I must say they are very comfortable and seems well built. I ordered a 9.5 and they are true to size any smaller they would be too tight any bigger they would have too much space. Prime shipping came on time as expected and I would order again!

The shoes are fine and fit comfortably for a few days. The shoe on the right foot developed a crease (after a week of use) which pushes painfully against the phalanges bone joint. The pain is so severe that I could barely walk for more than a few minutes. Judging by the vast majority of positive reviews (and the fact that the other shoe in the pair did not have the problem), I believe I got a defective piece. Unfortunately, I missed the return/refund period by 3 days and am stuck with a non-wearable pair of shoes. For all potential new buyers, I recommend breaking it in sooner to see if your shoes are defective as soon as you buy it.
