I want to preface this review by saying I do not usually review items unless I am extremely impressed either positively or negatively. For the Timberland White Ledge boots the feeling is the latter. These boots might be ok for a casual hike or two but CAN NOT hold up to daily repetitive use. I purchased these boots on Nov 8th 2017 for daily use at work, I am on my feet 8 hours a day walking and interacting with customers and wanted something a little more supportive than "running shoes" In that area these boots are great, comfortable, supportive and my feet were not sore or tired at the end of a day. But after less than 2 weeks of use the front toe area where the leather upper meets the thicker rubber part of the sole started to separate. Within 4 weeks the boots were completely unusable due to the worsening of the separation. Thinking I might have gotten a pair with weak glue, I purchased another pair but after 2 weeks the new pair is also doing the same. This is happening on both feet with daily use, just walking, I am not in construction or hiking on rough rocks yet the toe area can not stay together. I have heard Timberland has a 1-year warranty if the boots fail during normal use but considering this has happened to two pairs both within a month of daily use I would not recommend unless you potentially want to be replacing your boots every month.

Very nice boot, seemingly well made and tough. I added an aftermarket padded insole and was immediately able to walk over 7 miles, three days in a row without a break-in period. HOWEVER, after just my fourth day of wearing these boots one of the riveted eyelets on the left boot broke and came out of the leather hole, so now I have to take it to shoe repair to get fixed (hopefully). If they cant fix it reasonably Im sending them back. A shame because these are very comfortable boots. I should not have to pay for a repair because of shoddy craftsmanship. Ill revise the review as this issue progresses.

Im not exactly an expert on boots, this is the most I have ever spent on a pair of hiking boots, and I know they can run 4x the price of these easily. I used to buy nice work boots, and not have enough left over for nice hiking boots, so I either hiked in work boots, or bought $25-30 hiking boots. It was finally time for an upgrade. I couldnt be happier. Ive had these now for a year or so, and have used them in every season. They have excelled. Im not a long distance hiker, and that factors in. For fall and spring, these are brilliant all around. In winter they arent insulated, so you need really good socks. In summer, they arent very breathable, so again you need really good socks, and ample opportunity to take them off and cool your feet. I tend to do shorter hikes with heavier pack loads, for bushcraft camping. For the various on and off trail, wet and dry, rocky and muddy, infinitely varied conditions, there are none these havent been comfortable for. After all this use, they are just broken in really, no noticeable wear. This year I applied some sno-seal, and Im very happy with how the leather has responded to it. I think these boots are going to last me at least a few more years, and even then it may just be a case of some new laces and insoles. Original review 5/10/17 UPDATE: 11/8/18 Still holding up well, though the soles are showing a little wear, its consistent wear. The lugs are a little worn, but grip hasnt been compromised. I havent really been keeping track, but Ive put at least a couple hundred miles on them. The original laces are getting frayed from thorns catching on them, but havent broken. Treatment with sno-seal annually has kept them waterproof and the leather is holding up great. Im not convinced these are the greatest boots in the world or anything, but if you are looking for a hiking boot for environments that are cool and wet, you wont regret buying these. They do get pretty hot if its 80f and you have sun hitting your feet, breathability is limited.

I am very sad to say that Timberland quality seems to be falling off a cliff as of late. These ARE NOT LEATHER, but a synthetic material that does not age well. And while synthetic is in the item description, what is not listed is the POOR CRAFTSMANSHIP, LACK of ATTENTION to DETAILS and terrible Quality Control. Please see my photos and ask yourself, (1) How could these pass inspection? and (2) How could Timberland sign off on this (put their name on) these? Mind you, these photos are not of boots that were worn and frayed... these photos are of the boots straight of the box just as you see here. The stitching is all over the place, the waterproof tab sewn through and crooked. I used to be willing to pay good money for Timberlands because you knew you were getting rugged, American made footwear with a tradition of craftsmanship. Sadly, this is not the case with Timberland anymore as these are made in China from synthetic materials and bear no resemblance of Timberland of even 10 years ago.

My husband loved these because theyre lightweight like an athletic shoe but provide good support. However, after having worn them for less than two weeks one of the shoelace eyelet-rivets detached itself from the leather, rendering them useless. So disappointing. To make matters worse, the current seller ShoeBuy (used to be handled by Amazon) is not responding to refund requests, even though Ive gone through all the proper channels.
