I have been buying Brooks Beast for years. When you have big, wide feet, you know that finding good footwear can be a struggle. Despite being tall and built like a Beast myself, my size 16 EE feet loved running in the Brooks Beasts for years! I had the Beast 14s and ran those until the outsole foam started peeling away, and kept running in them because the reviews for the Beast 16 were just horrendous. I held out for the Beast 18, and Im absolutely disappointed. This $160 shoe felt like a $20 discount store sneaker. The cloth fabric on the toebox is way too thin, the padding on the ankle is way too thick. It seemed like my unattractive Beasts with Grandpa-style design was trying to look cool but at the expense of comfort. I decided to keep using them...perhaps they just need to be broken in. On my fourth run in the Beast 18s, I went for a 3.8 mile run. The first mile and a half was alright, then the pain started to set in. It felt like I had a sharp knife in each of my shoes. Each step was excruciatingly painful, but the trip back would have been just as long as the full run I had planned on doing, so I got my workout in and pushed through the pain thinking it was not the shoes fault. Once I was done, I looked at my poor Big Feet. Bruised blisters on each foot approximately six inches in length; the marks matched up perfectly with the inside edge of the outsole. The thin cloth fabric of the side of the shoe allowed the edge of the outsole to push through, and because the shoe is smaller than previous models of the Beast, that sharp edge was cutting into my feet with each step. Amazon is amazing, however. I returned them for a full refund, but I also lost all hope for Brooks. The Plight of the Bigfoot continues.

i owned beast 16, this beast 18 is better in width, cushioning, material wise as will, first time i bought the 16s it was a bit narrow and with time it adjusted to my feet, but with 18 its more comfortable widths in the toes area especial, i recommend this if you are huge person 6.2 FT+, and wight more than 250 pounds with WIDE FLAT FEET, this is the best motion control shoes with Maximum stability and Ultimate comfort shoes you can get.

Overall: Way too expensive to be falling apart after 3 minths. Good: They look ok. Pleanty of heal support and cushion. The bad: The foot bed is too narrow for my feet even with a 2e wide. The upper mesh has holes already. Not enough arch support for my liking.

I was a huge fan of The Brooks Beast 14 and then had to go to another shoe when the 16 came out. Now it was said that Brooks returned to what the Beast 14 offered. I wear custom orthotics and loved the style and fit of the Beast 14. The 18 does bring back the bigger toe room but for whatever reason I have never been so uncomfortable in a shoe. They caused immense pain. The bottom felt like it had no padding and the built in support felt more restrictive than helpful. I am a severe overpronator and have lost a lot of weight, over 100 pounds since wearing the Beast 14 and there is a chance I dont need that much support now. I am working with a podiatrist who feels a neutral shoe with over the counter orthotics should work with my added agility and physical capabilities. The Brooks Beast 18 restricted all my movement. I found the laces short as always with them and the full mesh upper made getting a fit that felt fully secure and comfortable very hard. Perhaps if your needs are different they will work for you. Also I was told my feet shrunk due to the weight loss so I started with a size 14 EE. That was too small and tight so I went to the 14 EEEE and still uncomfortable. I cannot recommend especially for the price. Sad that there are such limited options for people with flat feet who overpronate. Such heavy controlling shoes that are uncomfortable cant be the only alternative.

Very disappointed. I work in the hospital setting. These are only pair of shoes I have ever purchased that squeak when you walk, brand new! Both R & L shoes. There is a little plastic right at the mid point and I think that separation is where it is coming from. I am returning these shoes. For the price this is really disappointing.
