Their 4E is extremely narrow to the standard. See attached photo. Its the comparison of Asics 4E, 8 1/2 and New Balance 4E, 8 1/2. I used to really like New Balance but they dont make "wide" shoes anymore so although I like the design I cant wear them anymore.

I buy at least two pairs of these a year. They to me are really the perfect sneaker, I dont know much else to say. New Balance 574 are sort of like a cult band like the Grateful Dead, where people who are really into the Grateful Dead are obsessed with them. New Balance 574 people are sort of like that, we tend to be really about this sneaker and find all others just dont measure up. They feel great, look great, and last. A pair of these typically lasts me a good 6-8 months of hard daily use. The best sneaker in the world what else can I say!

New Balance has modified the iconic 574 shoe and not for the better. The biggest change is eliminating the padded tongue and substituting a non padded tongue which now digs in to the top of your foot. Butchering a product that has been made for years and years is not the way to run a business. New Balance should be ashamed of themselves. I am returning the shoes. Unfortunately I cannot give it 0 Stars.

I own several pair of New Balance shoes. They are all comfortable, well padded, fit well with quality workmanship. I received a pair of these 574s today, and they are nothing like the others I have purchased. These shoes look nice out of the box, but thats about it. They are about a half size smaller than the others I own, even thought they are all size 10. Padding is non existent, the sides of the shoes feel like they are made of cardboard. If you buy these anticipating a typical New Balance comfort and feel, you will be sadly disappointed.

Ive been buying these since mid-80s, but not frequently; I keep them in my gym bag for indoor exercise only, then rotate them out to everyday wear when they are well worn. Unlike Levis or some other successful brands, these have changed very little and remain reliable in fit, feel and material. I am over 230#, wear 12EE, and am grateful for a shoe that spreads my weight comfortably. thumbs up.
