This is still one of the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. I had ordered the "Tobacco Oily" color ( e. - a tobacco with a slight reddish tint brown, as depicted in the Amazon page) shoe, but the "Tobacco" color (a dull disappointing straight up brown color) shoe was delivered instead. Its an excellent if frail shoe and was too much of a hassle to return them over the color disappointment. I had owned a very similar Clark model, purchased approximately fifteen years ago in the Clark Boston store , which had the attractive tobacco oily color and was more substantially constructed. Ironically, despite its substantiality, my previous pairs rubber sole separated at the front when riding my bicycle as I put my foot down to come to a full stop. That had never happened to any shoe or sneaker I have owned while riding bikes over a life time. Nonetheless, all other things considered, it one is looking for an excellent inexpensive comfort shoe, this is it ... so long as you dont go bike riding or do any sports while wearing these.

A big fan of Clarks, but this model doesnt make me happy. They are just not comfortable, no other way to say it. They fit ok, its just that they feel like wearing cardboard shoes.

The Clarks Cotrell Edge Oxford seemed ideal for a casual everyday office work shoe. It is light, looks conventional, goes well with a variety of clothing, and is reasonably priced in its category. It has though a number of drawbacks. The sole, as has been mentioned in other reviews, is a softish plastic resembling crocs sandals; grip is far inferior to rubber and synthetic material used by some other manufacturers, and one has to wonder about longevity. Initial shoe comfort is great, but after about 40 minutes of walking some discomfort develops, on the top where the relatively hard leather folds and on the bottom of the foot. I thought that after breaking them in for a couple of weeks the 40+ minute discomfort would go away, but that has not been the case. So these shoes may not be the best for walking long distances. But the worst "feature" is a squeak that they developed after about the first 5 of so hours of walking. Now the squeak is permanent and loud. In a quiet office environment these shoes are practically unusable, unless you want everyone to notice when you are walking by. I have used several Timberland and Rockport shoes in the past of different styles and price points, some of which cheaper than these Clarks, and have never had any squeaks develop. This shoe also falls below average in comfort throughout the day. And the quest for an office shoe continues...

These shoes fit great and I like wearing them. I bought them Feb 20 and the tread is wearing smooth. I do not walk a whole lot for work and these shoes will be gone before 60 days is over. This is not my only work shoe. I have Rockports I have worn for 2 years and have more tread than these. I do not drag my feet either. I wish I would have believed the reviews. Really these shoes fit great look good but who needs a shoe that will only last 60 days of that long. The color also rubs off, I used a rag to clean dust and color just rubs off from light wiping. Tread is almost gone now and the price for the shoes has gone up ~$20. These will not last and clarks never responded to my emails. They did put me on their mailing list and sent a survey on how they did when they never responded.

So let me start by saying: I’ve owned about ten pairs of this shoe, no exaggeration. I wear them for work, for which they are excellent, and buy a new pair every six months like clockwork. They’re fantastic shoes that are sturdy, have great support, good grip, look nice, and are made of quality leather. I’d proudly endorse them (and any other Clark’s product) any other time, and often do. But the pair I received yesterday are pretty much unwearable. I put them on yesterday before going to work, and they were super tight. I actually had to un-lace them to put them on my feet. I was in a hurry and needed to get to work, so I wore them, assuming maybe the leather would stretch out or something. But after being on my feet for around twelve hours yesterday, my feet were in agony, and I will not be trying to just ‘make it work’ again. They were the same size I always get (11). Maybe they are being made in a different plant now, with different standards? Maybe they were simply a size 10 that were mis-labeled? I don’t know, but the lack of consistency here is a huge turn-off for me as a long-time customer. I don’t think I can return them now either, after getting them dirty at work.
