ECCO Men's Seattle Apron-Toe Derby Shoe

I have worn Ecco shoes for some time. I have a wide foot and would be best suited for a 44 or 45 in "extra wide". These are, however, hard to come by unless you want to pay full retail at a department store, so I usually end up in size 46to get the extra width I need. I ordered these Seattle Apron toe shoes in 46, to replace my old and worn out pair of 46, which provided many years of service. I also ordered the Helsinki bicycle toe in size 46. The Helsinki pair happened to be made in Portugal and they fit me as size 46 always has. The shoe leather seemed as good as always, too. On the other hand, the Seattle shoes were made in China. The shoe felt narrower than it should have (the box label had no modifier to state they were narrow). As to "Made in China", I have another pair of Ecco made in China and the leather on both seems inferior as to Ecco shoes made in Europe. It is certainly less supple, and if possible it seems thinner. I’m an airline pilot and I needed shoes that are comfortable to walk in, non-leather souls so it doesn’t pick up hydraulic fluid and jet fuel, and looks good. These shoes meet all the requirements and I have had them for a month now. They are comfortable even after a 10 hour day walking around the airport and flying. I also like that they are modern looking and make me look sharp in my uniform. I can’t say anything about longevity but when I asked what shoes to get on a airline pilot forum most said Eccos. I’m expecting years of good use out of these shoes and I’ll buy eccos again.

The rust is just a bid red-brown of cordovan. I like the color, but it is fading at the pivot points at the balls of my feet. Theses arent as nice as the first pair of ECCOs I owned (That was in 2006, so I dont remember the name of the style). The sole just isnt as cushioning or finely molded, and they are a bit tight in width. Still, they are nicer than most shoes, and the price is reasonable. They are breaking in nicely, after almost a year of moderate wear in rotation with two other colors. I have worn them down dirt paths, up grassy hills, down streets, and through snow. I have run short distances in them, and they were acceptably comfortable (i.e. my back and legs were fine, but the ball of my foot was a bit sore). I like the leather inside. It is much nicer than the textile in wear, comfort, looks, wet (like in the rain), etc. It was one of the features that convinced me to buy this shoe. I dont regret the purchase at all, but I was a little disappointed when compared to my first pair. All three pair shoes (one of each color)are consistent in size, feel, and leather quality. That speaks well for their process/brand control.

My son had to have some GOOD, durable and comfortable shoes made of leather and these are it! He loves them because they are so comfortable and look great. No peeling, no cheap, fake leather - these are the real deal and the best shoes. This is the second pair of Ecco brand shoes that my son has owned and they are both awesome. Bought a pair for my younger son as well. He loves them too! Happy mom!

Buying shoes is risky without trying. Thanks to Amazon good return policy, I was willing to take the risk and buy shoes online. It worked out well. The quality of the shoe is high. Ive had Ecco shoes before where the sole fell apart but this shoe is ok. Ecco must have reformulated the sole for better durability. update from 1/17/2015 and downgrade to 3 stars. The upper still looks great but the sole started to show cracks and small chunks starting to fall out. I wear the shoes a lot but the sole problem is troubling. Ive had these for less than 2 years.
