I have been wearing Rockport shoes for many years. They are comfortable, waterproof, and dressy enough to wear to the office. This pair was the 3rd or 4th pair I have purchased. They still look nice and have plenty of tread, but the padded strip of leather at the back of each shoe is not leather at all, but a cheap thin piece of synthetic naugahyde. It has peeled off to expose the cloth padding. The materials and advertising states "leather upper." This is a lie. You can see from the photos I am attaching that this strip a the back of the shoe is not leather. I have never seen anything like this on my other Rockport shoes. This was apparently a cost cutting measure that has greatly reduced the life of the shoe.

My old Rockports are a bit too scuffed-up to wear with anything nice. Yes, I did read the reviews before buying these Rockport Northfield Oxfords, and Im here to confirm what is being reported over and over again by Amazon customers: while somewhat comfortable on the feet, these shoes are built with poor quality materials, and it is virtually impossible to imagine them lasting more than a couple of months. The upper parts of the shoe feel like cheap leather, if they are real leather at all (highly doubtful). But the number-one thing that REALLY makes this feel like a disposable pair of shoes is the cheap foam sole. My old Rockports? They have a VIBRAM, hard rubber sole that is still going strong after at least 10 years of fairly heavy use! Sure, if you were trying to cut costs you might downgrade to a non-vibram sole that is still hard rubber... but to a foam sole? On a shoe made for adults? That is absolutely nonsensical. These are AT BEST on par with any of the CHEAPEST pair of black shoes youd buy from a discount shoe retailer at your local mall. For fifty-two bucks on sale I thought they might prove to be acceptable, but now that Ive inspected them I honestly dont think Id be able to live with myself keeping them, knowing I can get a quality pair of shoes (that are built to last for more than 2 months) for a couple hundred bucks and essentially have a 25% discount if I return these Rockports. I would never buy another pair of Rockports. If you personally dont mind buying cheap disposable junk, at about 50 dollars this shoe might be for you. But you would be certifiably insane to spend even a penny more than what I did for these... or for ANY of their shoe models, if these Northfields represent their new standard for shoe manufacturing!

I got a dark brown pair couple months ago, loved the feeling and comfort, decideded to buy another pair. This one just came which is exact same as described here was very different in quality. First, the color is not matte like the one I got previously, it is shinny now, (not a good shine) cheap quality Second, it doesnt say Adidas on the sole, seems like a cheap replica from the last time I got it. Third, very hard and uncomfortable wear, which is highly contrasting than the last one I bought 3 months ago. Will return it.

These are not the worst thing ever, they’re just a compromise between style and cost. I buy these cheaper models knowing they will wear out and need to be replaced more often than shoes costing $100-150. Some notes: 1) If these shoes are wearing out after only a few months, take my advice — buy a second pair. You should not be wearing a single pair all day every day. Either that or consider some sneakers when running the weekend ultramarathon. I apologize if I’m exaggerating a bit but I walk 10-15,000 steps daily and have never had the problems other reviewers highlight. Regardless, all shoes wear out, and cheaper shoes wear out faster. 2) Yes, these are cheaper. They are a compromise of quality features (comfort, waterproof, breathable, “permanent” shine) and lower cost materials (the notorious sponge sole that wears out so quickly), 3) All shoes get damaged, more so if you are wearing dress Oxfords on a camping trip. I buy these cheaper shoes because the toe caps tend to get scratched under my work desk, and I would hate to do that to a $200 pair of Italian loafers. Bottom line, these are not the greatest but I buy three pairs (different colors) and they last me about 2 years of mixed office and active use — and they look good doing it.

The soles on the Mens Northfield Oxfords have been significantly downgraded. I bought mine during late October 2017 and the sole is worn to the point that the shoe is no longer comfortable to walk in. All this resulting from occasional wear at my carpeted office (a couple of times a week). Very disappointed as Rockport shoes like these used to last for a couple of years. Ill let my picture do the rest of the talking.
