The Ultimate Care Guide for Leather and Suede

01.08.2026

Great shoes are an investment. With just a little bit of attention, you can double the lifespan of your favorite pair. Here is how to keep them looking brand new.

The Golden Rules of Shoe Care:

Protect Before You Wear: Before you even step outside, use a water and stain repellent spray. This creates an invisible barrier against rain and spills.

Rotate Your Shoes: Try not to wear the same pair two days in a row. Leather needs time to breathe and dry out from natural moisture.

Use Shoe Trees: Cedar shoe trees are a game-changer. They absorb moisture, prevent odors, and help the shoe maintain its original shape, preventing deep creases.

Cleaning Cheat Sheet:

Smooth Leather: Wipe with a damp cloth, apply a quality leather conditioner, and polish for shine.

Suede/Nubuck: Never use water! Use a suede brush to remove dirt and a specialized eraser for scuff marks.

Canvas/Sneakers: Remove laces and wash them separately. Scrub the fabric with mild soap and water, then air dry (never put them in the dryer!).
