Dr. Martens Vegan 1460 Smooth Black Combat Boot

I had very high hopes for these boots. I had a pair of Docs made of leather that lasted for over 2 years. When I went vegan, I thought Id never be able to get another pair. Then I found out they made vegan boots and was so excited! I heard great things about these boots and finally was able to buy a pair. Three months in, the soles started to come off. It wasnt bad at first, but now theyre almost completely off! These boots were delivered on August 22 2017. Today is January 27 2018. Thats barely 5 months of use. Ive had $30 boots from Wal-Mart last longer than that! Id understand if I had a more active lifestyle, but I sit on my butt in an office all day and have only gone hiking twice in the time Ive had them. Im actually hoping these boots were a cheap knockoff and not actually made by Dr. Martens because the company is known for the quality of their footwear and they last a lot longer than 5 months!

Updates review a year later: I have had these boots for year now. They have held up beautifully. I where them pretty much every single day because of comfy they are. I stick by everything I said in my first review. I highly recommend these. Im really in shock with some of the negative reviews for these because I have had the complete opposite experience with these boots. If I could give more than 5 stars I would! original review: PERFECT! i got a size 7, they fit great! Im happy with my purchase. Definitely worth the buy. Vegan boots, no animals were harmed & they make every outfit look great, its the best of both worlds!

Ive had mine for a couple of months now and theyve been holding up well with few scuffs, no tears, and good luster. The material is definitely not at the same level of durability as leather, as the fabric could be torn appart if enough stress is applied. On the other hand, I can wear the boots all day without feeling like my feet or knees ache. They do have to be worn in first of course, it took me about a week, which is typical of docs. They run somewhat small and definitely feel much smaller at first before you wear them in, so if thats a concern for others, Id say to try a size up.

Im a womens size 8, I got a mens 7 and was worried theyd be too big but they fit just fine. Im vegetarian, and am personally against paying money for new leather boots. Ive had them for 3 months now, and theyre great, I wear them to work all day and they arent hard on my feet, and i get so many compliments, they dont know the difference. Ive ended up in the rain wearing them too, I went to a concert outside pouring rain for several hours and my socks were still dry by the end. The only issues I have is when I first put them on, they left a black stain on the back of my pants, but that hasnt happened since. The second thing is that they squeak when I walk, and you can hear it when its quiet. Im not sure if this is because of the material, or if I still need to break into them more, or both. It kind of conflicts with the punk vibe theyre supposed to give off, but its no big deal to me, haha.

Ive had these boots for about 4 months. Theyre the slightest bit too large but that isnt a problem if I wear thick socks. The material seems to scuff a bit more easily than leather, but not beyond what youd expect from regular wear. Waterproofing seems to hold up over time. The real issue I have with them is that the sole is starting to detach from the instep on both boots. I only walk a couple miles a day, inside and on sidewalks, and I expected them to hold up much longer. Theyre comfortable and I like how they look, but Im worried that theyll be unwearable in a few months. After I noticed the damage to the sole, some friends said they knew people who had had the same problem, although I wasnt able to find widespread confirmation of the defect online. The Doc Martens website boasts that the synthetic materials dont preclude quality, but for the price I wouldnt chance it with this brand again.
