Sperry has apparently changed the design of their canvas deck sneaker, discontinuing the version that worked better for me. I write this review in case others are in the same boat. The previous version was not cap toe, didnt have the chaffing arch grommets and was a bit roomier. This new version of the same size cuts me across the arch due to the stitching of the cap toe, is too narrow and too short forcing the tips my big toes to bang the front of the shoe with each step. The next half size larger is like wearing clown shoes. Why discontinue a good thing? The slip-ons are closer to the old design so Im going that route even though I prefer the lace-up look. Just disappointed.

I purposely got a half-size larger than my real foot size, and ordered wide, but its still too narrow on my right foot. However, as I age, its becoming very difficult to find any shoe that fits me. I need it extra wide around the toes but narrow or flexible around the heel. With some surgery on my right shoe, its the best pair Ive found in a long time. Cutting through the right wall of the shoe, I discovered how well its really made - super thick sidewall. I cut a flap for my pinky toe and used shoe goo to hold it out while sealing it so theres room for that toe inside the shoe. With that modification, these are very solidly made shoes with extra comfortable and well made insoles. I walk many miles a day and may end up ordering these again next year.

The order I received was labeled as a 10.5E but it wasnt that size. I compared it to three other pairs of shoes that I have and it was considerably smaller (by at least 1/2 inch. I took it to a local cobbler (30 years experience) and he stated it was not a 10.5 E with any stretch of the imagination. The return policy is so strict, as the shoe can never been worn, must be in the same packing and if not there is a huge return fee, and they also reserve the right to not honor returns with a refund. It is a nice looking shoe however, be warned they come very small so the size will not match what is a standard shoe size generally worn by the receiver.

The fit is nice and they are very comfortable. But there is a big flaw. The brown "leather" bleeds into the white canvas - like, a lot. I bought and returned two previous pairs because of this issue and it seems to be a product defect. I guess itd be a good shoe if you like ugly stained white canvas.

Do NOT buy these shoes. First of all, they are MUCH more susceptible to dirtiness than other types of white shoes. The material/fabric gets dirty extremely easily and it does not wash away well. A pair of white Vans (which I had before these shoes) are much less susceptible to dirtiness. Secondly, these shoes are stiff -- stiffer than most, and when you bend your foot, the shoe often hurts because it is not bendy or flexible enough. As well, the back of one of the shoes dug into my heel and made me bleed. I wish I could get a refund on these -- $60 is a lot to spend on an item that is painful to wear and doesnt look good after a few uses. Big regret.
