At first these shoes were hard to break in, until I got them wet. Im not using the upper most lace holes, and find them very comfortable, on and off the boat. I can wear these without socks now on a daily basis and I find the removable insole easy to dry, clean of debris, etc.

I bought these for summer work as a deckhand on a schooner in NYC. The outsoles came unglued from the canvas body after one hour, and the canvas ripped after a few days. After 3 weeks, the entire shoe body came unglued from the sole. Ive never seen a pair shoes fall apart like that. Total POS. Its too bad, because I used to love the Sperry brand. Id still consider buying their old fashioned leather boat shoes. But their canvas shoes are garbage. AVOID AT ALL COST. I threw them away and bought a pair of Vans. To sum it up: Sperrys may be good (for a few days) if you want to LOOK like youre on a boat. —If youre gonna actually BE on a boat, get a pair of Vans.

I bought these after having a pair of Sperrys for over 2 years that were some of the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. These were pretty disappointing from the beginning. After just a few months of normal wear, the glue failed in a few places and they have been coming apart a little (see pictures). They werent nearly as comfortable as my previous pairs. I thought I was ordering the same pair as before, but these were slightly different, these have a white sole, whereas the comfortable, traditional Sperrys have a brownish yellow sole. The white sole makes them look a lot dirtier than they actually are, which is a definite con as well. I like the look of the shoe, but the comfort level and quick wear-out time have made these shoes pretty disappointing.

Very big variation in the amount of wear from the salt wash. I ordered 5 pairs total and they all looked completely different. Some had light wear. While others had much rougher wear. Though of the 5 pairs I bought on amazon 3 appeared to have been already returned or defective. One pair had stitching coming apart already, one the sole was not all white and had been tried on before probably. The last pair that was bad (white) had what appeared to be a water stain. I would suggest buying these instore or buying multiples like I had to as 3 were subpar. Amazon seemed to be aware when I called. Also I recommend the no show socks with these or they will smell from sweat. Depending on if you wear the no show socks or not you can be between two sizes. One pair of shoes also had wear on the sperry branding on the rear which the other 4 pairs did not. Pay careful attention to the shoe you receive.

This is my 5th pair of Sperry Topsiders, my first pair was purchased over 30 years ago. Mostly they are unchanged in quality, but this latest pair seems to be cut a full size shorter and narrower than previous Topsiders. My [Size12 Medium-Width] Sperrys are cut more like a [Size11 Narrow-Width]. I compared them to my worn-out previous pair. The outside dimensions are identical, but the inside of the newer pair has better padding which accounts for the smaller interior dimensions. The new removable insole is a slight improvement over the older, thinner inserts. For my next pair, I will order a size larger. In the meantime, Ill wear them wet as much as possible to make the canvas stretch. I wish Sperry offered these in a Wide [E] width.
