The only reason this is getting 3 stars is that it wasnt well-made. Otherwise, I really like the shoe and would have given it 4 or 5 stars if it didnt start to come apart after about six months. The black rubber sole started to separate from the bottom of both shoes after about six months and by ten months, it was hanging and flapping. To the credit of Keen, the warranty claim process and customer service was very smooth and they gave me a credit to purchase a new shoe (had to be from the Keen website). Still, the reason I bought a $135 shoe as opposed to a $40 shoe was because I expected the workmanship to be better. To have it come apart in less than a year was very disappointing. That said, its a good looking hiking boot that feels good on my feet and the waterproof material does the job well. If only China would get their act together and build products that last (virtually all work/hiking shoes seem to be made there so we dont have a choice). Hiking shoes used to last me many years, nowdays it irritates me that they start to come upart shortly after purchase.

This is my first set of Keens having used Merrells for the past few years. They are a heavier boot than anticipated but in general were still comfortable for daily use. The issue (and reason for 1 star) is that the right side of the sole almost completely separated from the upper after a little less than two months (Aug 6 - Sep 29). Even though I was outside of the return window Amazon sent a replacement pair which I received Oct 1. Upon reviewing the same seam you can see the adhesive is missing in spots and if you apply any inward pressure to the upper that the seam is going to separate again. After hearing so many good reviews on Keens (friends, family, websites) I expected a much higher quality boot only to be very thoroughly disappointed. Kudos to Amazon though on handling the situation!

Im usually not one to write scathing reviews, as I generally take my time in purchasing decisions by checking out reviews in many locations, etc. In this instance however, I truly feel it is my duty as many others before to warn potential buyers to avoid this product. After quite a bit of research, I settled on this pair of Keens. As a replacement to my Columbia boots that ive owned for the last 4 years. While the columbias are great and waterproof, they have been just a touch light for winter hiking and snowshoing. I wear a size 17, and my options are significantly more limited than the average person for footwear. After hearing about Keen for a number of years, and reading many of the reviews, I settled on these boots as a gift suggestion for myself, for the holidays. After I passed the suggestion along to a relative, I began delving into the more recent warnings and reviews of the Keen brand: notably about how their manufacturing and product standards have changes, and the newest products over the last year or so have been of a far lesser quality than the products they had previosly sold to gain the positive reputation that Keen holds. I read these negative reviews, saw the hundreds of other 5 star reviews, and noted that my size 17 boots are likely not hot sellers. Considering this, I thought that even if the manufacturing had been outsourced to china resulting in a lower quality product, it would be unlikely that a new batch of size 17s were made there, with this new process. I thought these boots would be a great piece of gear. I could not have been more wrong. I have now owned them for 24 hours, and one of the lacing eyelits just ripped straight out of the boot. The eyelit is the second up from the toe, and after inspection, Im not even remotely suprised that this happened, given the way it was stitched together. The stitching pattern gives the impression that these eyelit straps are laced through the leather, down to the sole from the upper. This is not the case. The strap was tucked under the leather upper by maybe 3mm. Likely less. I will post photos of the break, to further detail this review later this weekend. Tl/dr: awful, cost cutting manufacturing processes have ruined this brand. Do yourself a favor and avoid this boot. If anyone from amazon sees this: please consider creating a new listing for these keen boots. It is obvious that the product has changed, and the positive reviews from years past are terribly misleading.

I have been very disappointed with my Keen boots. After 1 week of wearing them they are showing sign of unsticking to the front and the sides. I would like to get reimbursed. Please tell me how to return the shoes.

Well.. I got my boots in today. I was excited because I finally have some real hiking boots as Ive always used my military boots and realized it was time to have a dedicated pair. Now, heres the thing..I filed for an exchange as soon as I saw the boots and this is why. First off, I get that their hiking boots and that its a leather material so anything that touches it is going to scar it up. Unfortunately, the pair I got looks like someone got it, wore it for a bit, and then returned it. Its as simple as that. The reason I think they were returned is because it was marked up with scratches and already looked like it was broken in already. Also, the sole doesnt look like itll stay together for very long. It might just be me, and I get that this is Amazon and if something doesnt fit right or doesnt meet someones expectation, they return it. To be honest, I could keep them and call it a day, but the fact that Im questioning them, especially for the price that I paid and the amount of stress that will potentially be put on them, I figure it would be best to be safe and not sorry. I added some pics of what I was talking about, so you can be the judge of whether Im wasting my time exchanging them or not. Cant wait to get the new pair and get them on the ground! Ill update again when they come in. *Update* Got the second pair really fast! Only downside is that they were worse than the first pair...lol. look. I just want a new pair or a spot that doesnt look like someone took them for a spin then decided they didnt want them back. If you look at the second group of pics(I know they all look similar) the toe has what looks like hot glue on it and overall the shoes look dingy. If you buy these shoes, Im sure theyre great. Im just not happy that the couple pairs that I received both looked broken in and i cant say this is neither Amazons or keens fault, its just my luck of the draw. My biggest disappointment is that I now have to return 2 pairs of these and I cant even get a refund..only option was a Amazon gift card. Im now not only going to have to head to REI or someplace equivalent (which is what I shouldve done in the first place), but I also wont receive an actual refund for these.. *Bottom line* If you decide on getting these, just expect that they most likely have been tried on and walked around or hiked in by other people which means the $130+ you pay for these may possibly be for second hands that might not look as nice as you hoped.
