I purchased these Merrells in October, 2017 (along with their brown pair for hiking, so if you see my almost identical review on the brown pair...its because they both kinda sucked for their own reasons). Ive owned Merrells in the past and loved them, so I went with these black ones for work (urban EMS). They felt amazing, that "broken-in" feeling on the first day, not stiff and painful. They were heavenly comfortable. However, within the first month or so, the leather was peeling apart from the stitching on the outside edges of the toe, which would cause water and snow to make my feet soaked. I had a local cobbler repair this several times, and it just kept happening in different places around the boots. The laces did NOT hold up, they fell apart in 4 months. The sole, while comfortable initially, was also about as long-lasting as cardboard. Felt like I was walking barefoot after the first 6 months. Ive since placed a name-brand insole inside and that has brought back the comfy feeling....but these shoes were $140ish brand new, and Ive dumped at least another $70 into maintenance and it has only been 14 months since purchase. Im currently shopping for a replacement, and I have no interest in Merrells.... at least these ones didnt soak up water like a sponge (that was their "waterproof hike boots" that did that....but thats another review.

When I was shopping this Fall or new multipurpose boots that would serve me in more than just the cold season, I already knew Merrell was a stellar line. I bought my wife some low-rise MOABs last year that she used on her postal service rounds for months, and Ive purchased other Merrell shoes for me in the past. I knew Merrell meant quality, but as one never to settle for what was on the rack, I shopped around for a while. I considered the Gore-Tex models, checked out other boots in the Merrell line, and also some competitors (Vasque, etc). When I found that Merrell offered their midrise boot in a tactical, I was smitten immediately. You see, Im no outdoors man. Im not one to want to look like Im ready for a hike, or to hunt or anything like that. Im more of a city guy. With that said, I know quality, and I know that tactical boots have to be made for the unknown variables that the wearer may face. These MOAB Tacticals are meant for police, SWAT and servicemen. Thats some serious stuff. The main difference between the Tacticals, the Waterproof and Gore-Tex models is the material, not the build. In all MOABs youll get a generous heel cradle, ample toe box and great arch support. The Tacticals up the game not only with a totally stealth black (or Brindle, or Tan) colorway, you get the exclusive advantage of material that wont allow in sand, grit or debris. The Gore-Tex models cant say that, nor can the waterproofs. I can stick my boot in the sand, in grit, in water, in ankle-high mud, in oil, have glass shatter and fall on it (that happened last night), and all I have to do is take a hose to it and boom; clean. No gunk seeping into the nooks and crannies, no sand forever in the toe material, nada. With the MOAB Tacticals, you an get out-of-the-box fresh look every day. And hey, you can use boot wax to make the blacks blacker, too. I have plantar fasciitis and a weak left ankle. These mids help with both issues (as well as an orthotic I use from time to time.) When you want a boot thats even better than the best MOAB model youve ever seen, pic the Tacticals. If youre lucky enough to find them in stock....!!!

Awesome fit as expected from a Merrill product. Been on my feet continuously working flight line, renovation of a concrete floor hangar building, and a 2500 feet of tiled floor house. Planter factious is killing me when I get out of bed; but the support in these shoes is soothing.

This is a great fitting tactical boot for someone with wide feet. I am on my feet 8 to 10 hours a day. I normally wear a size 11.5 to 12 shoe depending on the type of shoe and width. I ordered a size 12 Merrill and found that it is very comfortable with room left over to add additional arch supports or cushions if needed.

Excellent fit, excellent finish, Im looking forward to several years out of these boots. I bought the black and the coyote. The black get daily wear, and so far I have absolutely nothing negative to say about them. I was very excited when I saw that Merrell was making these boots. And they have lived up to the excitement. I have owned several pairs of Merrell hikers, and these are just as well made and rugged. I could not be happier. Buy them, you will not regret it! And as always, Amazon did an excellent job of getting my boots to me. I ordered them on Friday night, and they delivered them on Sunday! I loves me some Amazon Prime!
