****NEWS FLASH****. There is actually a place you can go and try these boots on first and make sure you have the right size! It’s called a “store”. There are nice people there that will help you too. It’s amazing. Seriously thought, I told the guy I was a 10 1/2 and he brought me 9 1/2 without telling me. He talked me through how they should fit now and how they will fit after a few weeks of wear. Please support the dwindling number of retailers out there. It was the SAME price as it is on amazon and they actually fit. Great boots by the way, but that is old news to anyone reading this. :).

I bought the Iron Rangers, and they are the second pair of Red Wings Ive owned. I love the 6 inch work boots that were my first purchase. These surpass even those. I ordered two pairs of these because after I made my first order Amazon was offering them for less. So, Im returning one pair. The ones Im returning however have a defect.. The left boots sole is incorrectly placed. However, the other pair are absolutely perfect. And such defects will happen with any product, and thus they dont affect my five star review. These feel fantastic right out of the box, comfortably tight and as though theyll just be around forever. They smell great, they hold my foot firmly but comfortably, and they look fantastic. Theyre as comfortable as my Birkenstocks, and they are a boot. Compared to many boots, they seem pricey. But when you know Red Wings, and understand what youre purchasing, it is very worth it. These will carry you far longer than two or three pairs of other less expensive boots. Size down half a size. Drop the dime, and do it.

Get fitted in a store before ordering online, as others have suggested; turns out I needed a full size down as opposed to half, resulting in unnecessary exchanges. Initial impressions (few days)- gorgeous, handcrafted details, thick, durable leather, tough-as-nails outer sole and strong hardware. The break-in has been absolutely brutal; three days in, I had to give them a break after my heels blistered, burst and bruised. My feet are flatter and more gnarled than the average pair, but you can likely anticipate a similar experience if correctly sized. For the uninitiated, this is simply the way its done- no pain, no gain. Im rating in good faith that these will be incredible boots once Ive thoroughly broken them in and will update on that front later. I can already see the leather beginning to wrinkle and mold itself around my ankles, so progress is painstakingly being made. In any case, I wanted a tough pair of daily boots that make me feel prepared if I wake up and the sky is burning, and I suspect Ive got em now. *3 Week Update* Im unsure if theyre finally broken in, or if Ive developed thick calluses in all the right places (probably both), but theyre finally wearable without bandaging my feet every morning. Ive had occasional circulation issues in one foot (its slightly larger than the other), but this seems to be diminishing. They feel incredible to walk in and are surprisingly comfortable. Sometimes they catch compliments, which is neat-o. My... sole... complaint is that my pair had a minor manufacturing defect- the tongues are off-center by a large margin, roughly 75/25, so when laced up, one side of my foot is barely covered at the top of the boot. It annoys me a little in the morning; I always have to smooth the tongue out carefully while lacing up to prevent it from crumpling into no coverage on one side. Perhaps it can be modified (local Red Wing store said they do repairs/ sole swaps, etc.), but its hardly pressing- I never notice during the day. All in all, excellent thus far. Time will tell if they hold up to their laurels, or if theyll be caught resting. One things for sure- these boots were made for walkin, and theyll walk all over poo. *6 Month Update* Its midwinter, fairly mild this year by most standards. I daily these in the suburbs/ office, 2-3 miles per day, and theyve been up to the task. Theyre not ideal for snow/ ice, of course- even with mink oil, theyre not truly waterproof or heat retentive- but they suffice, if you dont mind mild discomfort. What sold me on these boots, and continues to do so, is their incredible resilience. While theyve begun to accumulate a nick here, a crack there, and a tiny rough patch over yonder, theyve largely retained their shape despite daily use, occasional jogging and all-weather exposure. The partially lopsided heels have betrayed the secret of my janky walk, but otherwise, the soles are surprisingly intact, and have only suffered surface wear. And lets not neglect the laces. I cant tell if theyre somehow extraordinary or if the eyelets are just soft, rounded and gentle. Perhaps a bit of both. Whatever the case, the laces show zero signs of fraying, with a barely discernable wisp of fuzzy edging at most. Ive never seen laces hold up this well, this long before. And yes, I am an actual human being expressing mild excitement over shoelaces on an Amazon review. This is real life. Anyways, its also a bit amusing to note that my heels have developed deeply rooted calluses in response to these boots, but I couldnt care less. They feel superbly nimble and beautifully personal. This might sound odd, but I feel a sort of bond with these boots, as one might with an old dog. Ive shaped them with my feet, theyve returned the favor upon my heels, and consequently, weve both adapted to fit each other better than any shoes before them. Bearing in mind how long theyre reputed to last, how Red Wing will resole them for you to yield additional years of life... Well, it feels like it could just be the beginning of something special.

Awesome boots! I got worried after I placed the order and I read a review that said the boot sizes tend to run somewhat bigger than advertised. Im a 10.5 but when I tried them on they fit perfectly. I wore them to work the next day which can get rather physical but by the end of the day my feet didnt hurt which can happen when youre breaking in new boots. I love my Iron Rangers!

I read the reviews before buying and followed the advice. Went to a Red Wing store and was sized. I wear a 10 in Nike running shoes. For these I was sized at a 9, so, thats what I bought and they fit perfect. My advice, get a size down from what you wear in a running/tennis shoe. These took me three weeks of 5 day a week wear to begin to break in. They still are not butter but they dont hurt anymore, all downhill from here. Plan on a break in period. I love these boots and look forward to them being the last pair I buy. I wanted a pair that I could re-sole and break in. These are those. One thing to keep in mind...the stitch that runs along the outside of the side of the boot. That same stitch runs along the inside and protrudes into the side of your foot. During the break in that is what created the most discomfort. Still feels odd having this strap of leather pushing into the side of my foot all day but I am getting use to it. These are definitely worth the hype and the monies. Beware of some of the sellers, though. I had to return a pair before these. They were listed as "new". When I received them they came in a generic plain box with no Red Wing tags and scuffs all over them. Thanks to Amazons great return policy I sent them back immediately and had these on their way to me within days.
