While he doesnt mind white stitching, my husband wanted a boat shoe without white soles. Its hard to find a nice-looking boat shoe in a warm, light-colored brown that doesnt have white soles. I was happy to find these. The color in the picture (Timber) is accurate. I bought a wide size for my husband, and they fit very well. I think they are comparable in quality to Sperry or Sebago, which were the other brands I was considering. My only complaint is a minor aesthetic one. The leather extends to the sole on the heel, but not on the front of the shoe. Note: the laces are tucked inside the shoe in the picture above. They are long, and you can tie them several different ways if you want.

At first I was a bit apprehensive about ordering shoes on line, but my experience with these allayed my concerns, since this was a replacement for a similar pair of moccasin type shoes ( another brand) I merely ordered the same sizes as my previous pair, When I first wore the new shoes, I tbought they were a bit stiff and tight. But after a few days wear, they are fine. I was a bit surprised to realize that this style of shoe required a few days of break-in. But live and learn I always say. I am pleased.

I have never written a review, but I am so impressed with these shoes that I have to write one for them. Boat shoes are a great all-purpose shoe for Florida coastal living. Before I bought these Rockports, I always bought Topsiders.- a good shoe but with a very short life. I have worn out Topsiders in the time it took me to break in the Rockports. Thats only a slight exaggeration. Theyre like wooden clogs when you take them out of the box. Its tough going at first, youre not sure who will win, you or the shoe. But if you go slowly, a couple of hours a day until they soften up, you will eventually have a comfortable, good-looking, seemingly indestructible pair of shoes. Ive had them for 3 years, wear them every day, and expect to get another year or two out of them, easily. Worth the money? Definitely.

In general, this is a nice shoe. However, years ago, the original Rockport sold out to another company. I believe it was Adidas. I heard that Adidas destroyed all of the original lasts. This was a terrible mistake!!! The new Rockports look fine but never fit quite as well as the ones originally made by Rockport. As a result, many people, including me, have switched to other brands (usually more expensive) in an effort to obtain comfortable shoes, particularly comfortable dress shoes. This shoe feels OK when you put it on but because it doesnt fit as well as the old Rockport Perth shoes my feet feel sore after Ive worn them for a full day. This never happened with the old Rockport Perths. Thank goodness I kept a pair of the old ones and am able to get them repaired at Nordstrom.

I’ve worn this style Rockford for years. Always have two pairs in rotation which now have gotten to the “still serviceable but well worn” stage. Never had to have a pair in for a repair. But, it was time for a less lived-in look. Bought two pairs. They’re top quality ... rugged, comfortable ... and good looking.
